Sailing year 2 certainly felt like a sophomore year. We knew so much more than our first season but that didn’t keep us completely out of trouble. We had a slow start for a number of good reasons but still managed to maximize our time in the Bahamas.
Alaya felt more like our home than ever; the improvements we’ve been making really paid off.
I think I am most proud of our ability to slow down and actually cruise in the Abacos. I’m also very proud of the additional ocean miles we put under our belts, especially on our way south and our Gulf Stream crossings. With this season’s miles, we have officially crossed the 5,000 nautical mile mark, which means it is time to get a sailor tattoo!
Other Notables
- Learned how to fly our spinnaker (thanks, Pablo!)
- Safely crossed the Gulf Stream twice (no puking the entire season!)
- Checked into our first foreign country
- Met some wonderful people!
- Had our first hard grounding (thanks, Rock Pile)
- Still like and love each other through all of it!
