Time to Move

Moving out of our home of the last nine years was a huge physical and emotional undertaking. It was a great house. We started our marriage there; we closed on the house the day before our wedding. We loved and lost our golden retriever, Maggie, there; she passed away in October 2021 at almost 15 years old. We worked our tails off to make improvements, completely renovating the barn, building a massive deck, new flooring, new roof and much more. We hosted countless parties and bonfires with friends and family.

As much as we loved the house, it was time for our next chapter to begin.

Stopping by the house for the first time as owners, on our way to our rehearsal dinner.

We closed in early May and had move out by Memorial Day weekend. We had been sorting our stuff for the past six months, trying to get down to just the essentials that we would take with us on the boat. Despite months of work, there was still so much to do in the final weeks of May. Friends and family helped us a ton, moving furniture, tools, cars and keepsakes. Once Alaya was in the water, we moved the remaining items to the boat, one pickup truck load at a time.

Lucas still had three weeks left of work to go, which added to the stress of this time but somehow we managed. We spent our first official night on board Friday of Memorial Day weekend. Boy, we slept great! The boat was a mess, stuff everywhere waiting to be sorted again but the house was empty.

Now back to boat projects…
